Jesus Is Holding The Universe Together Right Now

What - or who - keeps the world from disintegrating into nothingness? What sort of glue holds the molecules of your body in place? Who guides the laws of science that operate in the world, ensuring that all things continue to function?

The Bible makes an amazingly bold declaration - twice! - when it reveals to us that it is Jesus Christ who holds everything in place:
"and in him" (Christ) "all things hold together..." Colossians 1:17b, ESV
God "has spoken to us by his Son... He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power." Hebrews 1:1, 3, ESV
Can you fathom this?

The Son of God who entered human history and took on a body like ours is also continually holding the universe together! As the Roman soldiers were nailing him to the cross so that he could die for sinners, he was at that moment holding in place the very atoms that made up their hands, as well as the hammer and nails; ensuring that his death for us could continue. As his dead body lay in the tomb Jesus was keeping the earth in orbit around the sun and controlling the breaking of every wave - in every ocean - as they crashed on every beach in the world. At this very moment the glorified Son of God is Lord of the creation he brought into existence, and rules over all the heavens and the earth.

Pause for a moment and worship Jesus.
He is more glorious than you can imagine.
And he holds you together so you can worship him.
